As global oil prices continue to plummet, data suggests northwest Louisiana could be as much a victim as many of the traditional oil parishes along the southern coast of the state.

Louisiana Workforce Commission totals for the week ending Dec. 26 show 2,398 initial unemployment claims, down from 2,675 claims filed the previous week but up from 1,566 claims filed for the same week in 2014. That latter figure reflected the initial downturn in the oil and gas industry in Louisiana that began when the barrel of oil fell from a high of $114 in July 2014 to $36.62 on Monday afternoon.
